Impact of Covid-19 on BAME Communities

Covid-19 has had more negative effects on Black Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people, especially those from the New and Emerging Communities, compared to white people.

This has been caused by multiple complex factor including health, wealth, resources and engagement health inequalities that experienced by these communities.

Since April 2020, we have been working with our consortium members and other organisations in supporting New and Emerging Communities to overcome some of these Covid-19 impacts as outlined below.

Covid-19 Support Work and Activities

Nottingham Equal is working with over 15 groups who support New and emerging Communities from African, Asian and Eastern European backgrounds in supporting individuals, families and communities cope with the effects of Covid-19 pandemic as follows:

Food Supplies

Self-isolate if you know you are infected with COVID-19, or if you have any symptoms of an acute respiratory infection like a cough, fever, sore throat or runny nose.

Household Items

Physical distancing’ means physically staying apart from other people. Maintain social contact with friends, family and colleagues from a distance instead.

Mental Health Support

If you are infected, the use of a medical face mask reduces the risk of you infecting other people. If you are healthy, the use of a medical face mask when visiting busy, closed places.

Digital Skills

Our self motivated and dedicated team of doctors has a major role to play in our success and growth and has provided us with an opportunity to deliver outstanding services.

Community Conversations

Avoid physical meetings, events and other social gatherings in areas with ongoing community transmission, and follow local recommendations applicable to mass gatherings.

Signposting

If you feel unwell, stay at home. If you develop any symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, call your healthcare provider for advice immediately.

Tackling Loneliness

Our self motivated and dedicated team of doctors has a major role to play in our success and growth and has provided us with an opportunity to deliver outstanding services.

Volunteering
